What is Gua Sha?

Gua Sha is a massage stone used in Chinese medicine which:

  • activates the blood circulation, bringing more oxygen to the cells
  • increases lymphatic circulation
  • reduces muscle tension and impurities
  • smooths fine lines
  • brightens the skin
  • improves skin absorption of skin care products

In the morning, a facial massage helps to reduce puffiness and signs of tiredness on the face, as well as smoothing eye bags. Evening massage helps to relax and relieve muscle tension during the day.

Gua Sha can also be used to relieve shoulder and neck tension, relax masseter muscle, and body massage. Gua Sha is also ideal for pressing acupuncture points and opening muscle membranes. Bruises are possible with body massage.

How do I use Gua Sha?

Clean your face as usual. Apply lotion, serum or oil to the skin. We recommend you massage the face after the oil so that the stone slides smoothly on the skin. If you wish, you can also massage the skin after cleansing and then add the care products afterwards.

Repeat each movement twice.

Start a facial massage around your neck. Massage the neck with the curved part of the stone, starting from the right side. Move the stone in upward motion. Proceed to the sides of the neck. Carefully massage the center of the neck with the recess of the stone. After treating the entire neck, move to the double chin area, proceeding from below.

Right side of the face

  1. Massage the jaw line (on both sides of the jaw bone) with the recess of the stone, starting from the middle of the jaw and moving towards the ear. Use the long side of the stone and massage the lower part of the jaw again.
  2. Massage the buccal muscles beneath the cheekbone with the cavity of the stone - press firmly and proceed from the mouth to the ear.
  3. Massage the cheekbones and eyelids, starting with the nasal tip towards the ear. Use the stone recess.
  4. Next, treat the eyebrow area - pull the recess part towards the base of the eyebrow towards the temple according to the eyebrow. Repeat twice. Use the long side of the stone and massage from the beginning of the eyebrows up to the forehead - divide the eyebrow into three sections for the strokes.
  5. Move on to the forehead. Brush the long side of the stone from the center outwards towards the temples.

Left side of the face:

Repeat steps 1-5 to the left of the face.

Finally, press the recess of the stone into the upper part of the nose, below the eyebrows between the eyes. Press for about a second and release. Repeat about 5 times.

Note that the skin may redden during and after the massage as blood circulation increases, but the redness is normal and decreases rapidly. Gua Sha should be handled gently - massage should be felt, but skin should not stretch and bruises should not occur.

Tip! Store Gua Shaa in the refrigerator - cool stone to refresh skin and help reduce swelling!
